My life with CF

Hello, let me introduce myself to you, my name is Andrew Wilkins, I am 28 years old. I work full time as an advanced driving instructor teaching learners, and drivers who want to become advanced, to get through a variety of tests.
The important things in my life are friends and family and of course my cats. My CF does not affect my family at the moment because luckily it is not too bad. Also my work is not affected either at the moment because I only occasionally need to take time off and as I am self employed I can just work this into my diary.
My CF is deteriorating slowly at only about 5% a year, although I only sit in a car I try to keep fit playing squash once a week and doing yoga.
I have never had a transplant, but no doubt in the future it will have to happen and at this moment in time I don’t know that I will have one having seen good and bad in my friends at the hospital who have had them.
At the hospital I am part of a CF community which is great just being with friends who know what you know and how you feel, I feel I have made solid and lasting relationships with other CF’s, my ‘normal’ friends try to understand but don’t know what it is like.
Organ donors at the moment is the way ahead and I think the opt out from the list is a good way of thinking rather than opt in, so at least people who need a transplant will a choice. Whilst all other efforts can be put into gene therapy. Anyway thanks for taking the time to read this
